For example, you could move German (Deutsch) up to be your preferred language, as shown in Figure 12-3. If you refresh the Application Builder page after changing your preferred language, you should see the browser language change from en-us to de, as shown in Figure 12-4. However, at this point, all that has changed is the browser language string displayed in the Application Builder. The Application Builder itself (and SQL Workshop and other user interfaces) is still being displayed in English, not German as you might expect. This is because, by default, only the English translations are installed with APEX. If you want to display other languages, you need to manually install those language translations yourself.

All versions of the Linux operating system are based upon open source software, the majority of which is licensed under the GPL. This means you are free to distribute all Linux operating systems, including enterprise versions, without incurring license fees or agreements. However, all production standard operating systems have a basic requirement for technical support and maintenance and security updates. On Red Hat Enterprise Linux this is provided through a subscription model, and Oracle will only provide support for Red Hat customers with standard or premium subscription agreements as discussed in 2. The Red Hat Login page provides the means to either use an existing login or create a new one with the details you received when you purchased your subscription. This activation process requires access to Red Hat systems via the Internet and, once enabled, connects the system to the Red Hat Network. In a clustered environment we do not recommend connecting any of the nodes to the Red Hat Network. Instead, we advise managing registrations and updates manually from a system such as a management workstation, not from the cluster nodes themselves. You will probably wish to defer registration of the operating system until you have completed the installation of all servers in the cluster. On the Why Register page, you can select "I Cannot Complete Registration at This Time. Remind Me Later." Click Next to bypass registration and proceed to the System User page.

Red Hat recommends creating a system user in addition to the standard root user on the system. More specific details than are available here are required, in terms of the Oracle user and groups. Therefore, click Next, followed by Continue on the warning dialog box to skip creating any additional users at this point. A subsequent page will be displayed if a sound card is detected on the system. But it is unlikely that on a server dedicated to Oracle that a sound card will be present. However, if one is detected, click Next on the displayed page to test the configuration. Click Next to continue to the Additional CDs page.

The Additional CDs page gives the opportunity to install applications additional to the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux software. No additional software is required to be installed at this stage for an Oracle configuration. Click Next to continue to the Finish Setup page.

The Finish Setup page summarizes the status of the installation and the activation of the Red Hat software subscription. Click Next to end the firstboot process and complete the installation.

You can see which languages are currently installed in APEX by logging into APEX as the instance administrator and navigating to Manage Service Installed Translations, as shown in Figure 12-5.
